This Abbess desk was probably made in the 1950s. Model number D206. It was originally used in the Library at the Liverpool College of Higher Education and supplied to them by a Company called Matthews Office Furnishers.
Made from Sapele wood instead of the more usual oak so quite a rare model. Three drawers and a pen holder. One long shallow drawer. One normal drawer. One deep filing drawer. One pull out pen tray.
Fully stripped and re-finished with a hard wearing lacquer. The top has a short length (20cm x 0.5cm) of veneer which has previously been glued down. It is not obvious and does not affect the use or look of the top.

We use state-of-the-art water borne lacquers as used by manufacturers. They have been certified to FIRA Standard 6250 for surfaces in heavy/severe use and are superior to any oil or wax. The finishing process we have developed maintains the timber's colour and warmth and enhances figure, grain definition and chatoyance. On Antiques we use traditional French polishing methods.
